Seems like an incredible unneccessary "feature". With just a very limited group of users that would use it. You're better off modifying pftp to do that (it is possible).

But it doesn't keep the history from just ctrl+r, just what you've typed in with ctrl+shift+r, and penguin wanted the history to cover both ctrl+r and ctrl+shift+r.
